Another day, another record set by history maker Lionel Messi.

You could be forgiven for thinking the Barcelona legend was just strolling about in Florida with Inter Miami.

However, title rivals New York Red Bulls found out he's not finished just yet, in ground-breaking fashion.

The signs have been there this season that Messi isn't messing around, especially with the Copa America around the corner

Prior to his Saturday night's clash, the Argentina World Cup winner had nine goals and four assists to place the David Beckham-owned club top of the Eastern Conference.

But in a 6-2 demolition of New York, the 36-year-old hit new heights on American soil.

He grabbed a MLS record five assists in the match and not only that, he did it in just 33 second-half minutes.

Messi's exquisite passing and dribbling created three goals for Luis Suarez who managed to score a stunning 12-minute hat-trick but still remained overshadowed.

Messi also managed to get himself on the scoresheet as Inter Miami overhauled a 1-0 first-half deficit in stunning style.

“Well, I always say the same thing: It is redundant to talk about him,” said Argentine boss Gerardo Martino.

Jason Kelce debates with Travis Kelce that Lionel Messi playing in the MLS is nowhere near the level of the rest of his career and compares it to Michael Jordan playing golf instead of basketball

“Messi makes the difference, always. He participated in six goals – I don’t think we will ever see anything like that again.”

“Today Luis’ connection [with Messi] was very good. Like the old days,” added Martino.

Emil Forsberg, though, who scored a late penalty for New York Red Bulls, was fuming with the collapse, even if it was brought on by Messi's genius.

He said: "The feelings in the locker room, the reactions were of course not good. I think we’re very disappointed about the second half. I think we played a perfect first half, we did very well.

"I think we’re always coming in confident in the games. We’re playing good. We’re doing what we’re saying we’re going to do. We need to step up next weekend and be better than the second half.

"I mean, we can’t accept this. We will have a good [training] week and hopefully, come back stronger. We have to learn [from] this. We have to raise our standards, to get out on our home field at Red Bull Arena and win. We need to give our fans … We have to make ourselves proud and to show what quality we have."
