Jude Bellingham is already living up to the meaning of the iconic number five shirt at Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old arrived in Madrid last summer and as his £115million signing was announced, he held the No.5 shirt in his hands.

Many thought Bellingham would stick with his choice of wearing 22 on his back, which he had done for his whole career so far at Birmingham City and Borussia Dortmund.

However, that shirt was already worn by Antonio Rudiger so he opted to wear five instead.

By doing so, he took on one of the Real's most iconic shirts which was once the all-time great Zinedine Zidane's.

That piled the pressure on him, but Bellingham has been able to take it, thriving and reaching new levels in Spain so far.

And there is no surprise that the Birmingham-born midfielder has become a superstar in the shirt, as he was always destined to wear it.

Bellingham has revealed that Zidane's shirt was present throughout his childhood with his dad wearing it at home.

He told Movistar: "My father always wore a Real Madrid shirt around the house with 'Zidane' on the back, which is funny because, in a way, it has come full circle. He gave it to me when I arrived here in the summer.

"He always wore it and I always told him: 'Who is this guy you have on your shirt?' And he always answered: 'When you're older, we'll see him on YouTube...'

"And now that I'm wearing number 5, it has ended up being a pretty significant story. Really significant to me."

So it seems Bellingham was also going to follow in the footsteps of Zidane and now on the pitch he has received comparisons to the Frenchman.

In fact, former Real Madrid star Steve McManaman believes he has already made a bigger impact than Zidane at the club.

Bellingham has scored 18 goals and provided four assists in 26 games during his debut season in La Liga.

And he has won his first-ever league title in Spain while also being one win away from the Champions League final.

McManaman looked back on his time at Los Blancos and told TNT Sports last week: "Luis Figo came into the dressing room.

"R9 [Ronaldo Nazario], ‘El Phenomeno’ came into the dressing room. Zizou [Zinedine Zidane] came into the dressing room.

"Nobody has had an impact like he has [Bellingham] and he’s done it at the age of 20 years old. It’s phenomenal."

Bellingham will be wearing the shirt again this evening as Real Madrid host Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, which is live on talkSPORT.
