Former Birmingham City and QPR midfielder makes move to South Korea

Former Birmingham City and QPR midfielder Jordon Mutch has joined South Korean side Gyeongnam FC.

The 27-year-old has linked up with the K-League side, as confirmed by their official club website today.

Mutch was released by Premier League side Crystal Palace last month and has found a new home. He spent last season on loan in the Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps.

The story so far..

He came up through the Derby County academy before leaving for Birmingham aged 15. He made his debut aged 16 in 2008. He went onto play 24 times for the Blues and had loan spells out at Hereford, Doncaster and Watford.

In 2012, Birmingham sold Mutch to Cardiff City. In his first season with the Bluebirds they won the Championship title and were promoted to the top flight. However, they were relegated in their only season there and Mutch moved to QPR. After only five months Mutch made the move across London to join Crystal Palace in January 2015.

He was on the books at Palace ever since up until January but also had loan spells at Reading and most recently Vancouver during his time at Selhurst Park.

New challenge..

Gyeongnam came 2nd in the K-League last season and Mutch will be looking to help them go for the title in this campaign.

Other British players have also made the move to South Korea, such as former Norwich City striker Jamie Cureton, who had a spell at Busan IPark in 2002 and more recently Northern Ireland international Niall McGinn, who spent part of the 2017 season with Gwangju.
