Aston Villa keeper set for Premier League return

Aston Villa’s Brad Guzan could be about to return to the Premier League after a report from the Birmingham Mail suggested that Middlesbrough are interested in signing him.

Many fans would be glad to see the back of the 31-year-old goalkeeper who ended up getting a lot of the blame for Villa’s poor season which ended in relegation from the Premier League. His poor form throughout last season led to recent reports that the club wanted to sign Juventus’ Nicola Leali as a replacement.

And now Guzan may be set to leave Villa Park as recent reports now suggest that Middlesbrough are interested in signing him. Boro are keen to sign a new shot stopper as, while their current number one Dimi Konstantopoulos was impressive when they were promoted from the Championship last season, he is now aged 37 and that could be an issue very soon for the team.

And while Guzan is coming off the back of a very poor season, getting out of Villa where the pressure has piled on him may be the right move for him. Added to this, his experience of the Premier League should help Middlesbrough now that the Teessiders have finally returned to the top tier of English football.
