Birmingham City will be making a decision on free agent ‘soon’

Birmingham City have stated that they will be making a decision on free agent Josh McEachran ‘soon’ according to their official website.

Manager Pep Clotet feels they need more time to assess him before reaching a decision on whether to sign him permanently or not.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been training with the club since last week and played just an under hour for the Under-23s against Bristol City on Monday.

McEachran came through the academy at Chelsea and then went on to spend four years with Brentford before being released this summer.

Clotet explained what he has learnt so far since having McEachran training with the club. “He has been having a few training sessions with us. The Club thought it could be good to have a look at him.”

“It gives the Club enough time so we can have a proper assessment. We asked him to play on Monday to have a better assessment and give him the right opportunity to get fitter.”

“At the end of next week, I will give the club my opinion and they can take a decision. From what I have seen until now he is a player that is comfortable on the ball and a player who links up well from the back to the front.”

“Probably he is a player that needs to be playing with someone else in the middle. He has said he wants a chance; he backs himself and was happy to come here and have a trial.”

“It’s about doing the work on the pitch, showing what you can do and then the Club will take a decision.”

Blues have had a good start to their Championship campaign having picked up ten points from six games and currently lie in ninth place in the league. Their away form has been questionable and despite McEachran’s decline in recent times he could be the quality addition they need this season.
