Juninho Bacuna has apologised for Birmingham City’s relegation to League One in an emotional message to the club’s supporters.

Bacuna has become the first player to publicly address the club’s relegation on his personal platforms. Stand-in captain John Ruddy spoke to the media after the final day of the Championship season.

Bacuna said: “Apologies to everyone associated with the club, Birmingham City and the fans. This wasn’t a season we expected or hoped for. You guys stood behind us and we let you down.

“(I’ve) got no words for it but one thing is for sure, the club will be back where it belongs. Trust the process.”

Bacuna is among those whose futures are now unclear. The Curacao international is contracted for another 12 months but it remains to be seen whether he is willing to drop into League One.

With nine goals and six assists in all competitions, Bacuna had an acceptable individual campaign. Only top goalscorer Jay Stansfield matched Bacuna’s 15 goal contributions for Blues last term.
