Birmingham City old boy joins 'honest, combative and loud' club as he explains what suits him
Oliver Burke, who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at the Blues, has joined German side Union Berlin
Oliver Burke has spoken out on the "gut feeling" that persuaded him to make his first transfer since leaving Birmingham City.
The Scotland international striker has joined German side Union Berlin, bringing an end to a three-year spell at Werder Bremen.
It was from Bremen that Burke spent the 2023/24 season on loan at St Andrew's, making 23 appearances in all competitions, but failing to score as the Blues were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.
He returned to his parent club the following season, going on to scoring six goals in 27 Bundesliga games to earn his latest move.
On his arrival to Berlin, the 28-year-old said: "Union are a special club – honest, combative and loud, and that's exactly what suits me.
"I want to give it my all here, soak up the energy of the fans and make a difference with the team.
"The decision to join Union came from my gut feeling, and I had very good talks with the people in charge, which is why I am convinced this is the right step for me."
Horst Heldt, Union's sporting director, added: "Oliver has the profile we were looking for, pace, physicality and the ability to decide games in tight moments. His energy and determination make him a good fit for us.
"We know his qualities from the Bundesliga and are convinced that his experience and mentality will make him a valuable addition to our team."
Union Berlin are the latest in a growing list of clubs to sign Burke, joining the likes of Nottingham Forest, RB Leipzig, West Bromwich Albion, Celtic, Alaves, Sheffield United, Millwall and Birmingham City, among others.
