After three defeats in a row Birmingham City will be keen to get back to winning ways as QPR arrive at St.Ansdrews@KnightheadPark in a mid-table, mid-week clash under the lights. The R’s arrive on a poor run of form themselves having lost four of their last five Championship games but will be buoyed by their victory against the Blues in the reverse fixture in early December. Both managers come into the game under pressure and a defeat for either will only serve to intensify the pressure. Blues will also be keen to get back to winning ways after losing for only the second time at home last time out against high flying Middlesbrough.

Birmingham City made it three defeats in a row for the first time under Chris Davies with a lacklustre 1-0 defeat at the Valley against Charlton Athletic. In what turned out to be a game of few chances and of generally poor quality the game was won late on with a goal from Addicks striker Charlie Kelman who had only been on the pitch as a substitute for a few minutes. Blues failed to deal with the second ball from a long throw from which Kelman pounced to seal the three points for Charlton. Blues fans will be concerned with the lack of goal scoring opportunities in the game having registered just one shot on target in the whole of the game. A better performance in a few day’s time against QPR is now a minimum requirement for the Blues.

Birmingham City suffered back-to-back defeats in the EFL Championship for the first time since early December with a 3-1 home defeat to high flying Middlesbrough. This was only the second league defeat at home in over 41 matches for the Blues, however on the night the Boro were far more clinical and thoroughly deserved the three points. Blues started well and were on the front early on however Boro scored two first half goals is quick succession from Matt Targett which seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Blues. Marvin Ducksch pulled one back early in the second half for Birmingham however a third goal from David Strelec mid-way through the second half was the final nail in the coffin for Blues, who never recovered and ended the game with no points and their chances of making the play offs in serious doubt.

Birmingham City were brought back down to earth in the EFL Championship after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat by Millwall at the Den. The Blues were a shadow of the team that had won five and drawn three of their previous eight league matches and in truth never looked capable of beating the rampant Lions. A combination of aggressive pressing and good movement from Millwall and poor defending from the Blues proved decisive in a game that Millwall fully deserved to win. The win lifted Millwall to third in the table and put a significant dent in the Blues playoff aspirations.

Birmingham City are in red hot form at the moment, however no game in the EFL Championship is an easy one, especially as the next game is away to 3rd place Millwall at the Den. Despite losing their last game 3-1 at home to Portsmouth the Lions are in good form themselves losing only two of their last eleven league games which has cemented their place in the current play off positions. The Blues have significantly improved since the New Year’s Day defeat to Watford, winning five and drawing three of their last eight league matches which has propelled then into playoff contention. This promises to be an intriguing encounter with both teams desperate for the three points to maintain their play-off push.

After 24 years Birmingham City finally managed to claim victory at Norwich City with a fantastic 2-1 win in the EFL Championship. The win lifts the Blues into seventh place in the league and only one place and two points outside the final play off position.
